Public owners post the tender on their procurement portal — Bonfire, MERX or Biddingo — and contractors register as plan takers. Private owners and consultants send an invitation to a short list with the documents, closing date and time, site meeting and bonding requirements. Everstrong takes invitations either way: send the portal link or the documents and we confirm whether we're bidding.

What a bid invitation should include

  • Project name, owner and consultant.
  • Where the documents are — portal link or file share.
  • Bid closing date and time, and where bids are delivered.
  • Site meeting date, and whether attendance is mandatory.
  • Bonding: bid bond or agreement to bond, and performance / labour and material bonds.
  • Delivery model — stipulated price, construction management or design-build.

What to ask before you award

Who is the superintendent, how often will you report, and what happens when something goes wrong on site? The answers tell you more about the next two years than the bid price does.
